dolle mina's

De dolle mina’s where a group of woman that fought for woman’s rites. Their roots lie in the US were the pioneer Michel Korzec started his group. He went back to the Netherlands. The dolle mina’s had a great role in the getting of equal rites for woman in the Netherlands. One of there most famous actions were the tying of pink ribbons to “public” toilets (but only for men). When they came close to there destination the fell apart because they made people more open to demonstrations so there were other groups that draw more attention cause they were more aggressive

 

Second world war:

This is one of the most important events in Dutch history because this made use see how harsh war was. We had never be in a war at last not a resent one. We fought for 4 days en then the war “ended”. It went on for an other 4 years for the people beneath the river and 5 years for the people above the river. They had to endure almost a year longer because al the bridges were bombed and the alies couldn’t move up the river. And this is how they had to survive the winter of hunger. This is called so because the Germans kept al the trains to them self so the people up stream didn’t have much food. One of the most famous people from this era is Anna Frank because of her diary. Where she describes how she lived the war. Because she was Jewish the Germans looked for them so the had to hide. They hide in a place called the backhouse. She has become famous by the sad fact that she died a few days before the 5^th of May (this is our liberation day) and she has one of the only diaries that survived the war

 

lifestyles

In the ’60 there were a lot of people that wanted a new identity because they wanted to break free from the normal lifestyle that everybody hade this is how the punkers (people with percings weirth haircuts and tatoo's), the hippies ( the people who always were stoned and were for word peace), the rockers ( the name says it, they listen to rock 'n roll, are very musculan and also have lots of tatoo's), the preps (people that altouh everything chanced stayed the sane dull and boring) and the jocks (they were the sporters, the stereotype stupit and strong guys) were born. This were all lifestyles that came out of nowhere but they are all very different from each other as you can see.

 

North Sea flood of 1953

this flood was on of the bigest to ever strike the Netherlands there were a lot of casualties and the flooded erea was as big as the entire provincre of Zeeland (1365 km2). the water reatched a level of 5,6 meter above the usual. the official nubers of this coutry were: 1835 people died, 70000 had to evacuate, 30000 animals died, 47300 houses were dameged of witch 10000 distroyed and the damage cost was arount the 450 bilieon euro. But not only we were hit by the flood but England and Belgium were olso hit only there numbers were a lot smaller 307 poeple died in England and 28 in Belgium. one of the bigest acsedints hapent in noord and south holland were the schielandse hoge zeedijk protecting 3 bilion people broke at a small section that was not reinforced and the water flooded the deep polder. the major of nieuwerkerk dicided that the captian of the schip de twee gebroeders (the two brothers) should flout the schip into the hol inthe dykes. the captain was afraid of the idee that the schip could slip trou the hole and dive rith in to the polder but he dit it any way and the schip stuck in the hole saving many people.

In 1971 is the mildredhuis in Arnhem opened, this was the first abortion clinic in the Netherlands. But abortion wasn’t legal. In the Netherlands abortion is legalized in 1984.

 At this moment Holland is a well known country that is liberal in some things like : drugs, gaymarriages, abortion and prostitution. 

 

 

After the second war, Holland needed workers for the reconstruction of the country, because some cities were bombarded and destroyed.

 Out different countries came workmigrants. They wanted to deserve money and go back to their own country when. But the migrants liked the modern life in the Netherlands and brought their family to Holland. They made plans that they go back to their own country if they were elderly.

 But they were accustomed to live in Holland.

 Since that time arised disputations between autochtons and foreigners.

 Pim fortuyn and Theo van Gogh were killed in reason that ther are against foreigners.

 Rita Verdonk, Geert Wilders and Ayaan Hirsi Ali are living examples of them.

 

Maybe you know Geert Wilders. He made the film fitna this year.

 

 Economy :

 

The Economy in our country grew very hard from 1960 till 1979. But then started the unemployement. The unemployement continued till the end of the 80ies. After this the economy started to grow again. In 2002 the gulden was replaced by the Euro. After that the life is been expensive.

 

 Politic :

 The current queen is Beatrix, she is the head of state in Holland.

 The inhabitants of the Netherlands can vote for a party.

 At this moment the president is Jan Peter Balkenende. The three parties that lead are the CDA, PvdA and the Christen unie.

 

 Football :

 In 1988 Holland is been champion of europe. They won the match 2-0. The current coach Marco van Basten has scored the second goal contra russia.
