EXCHANGE
A week at another family
By: Jan Geleijns
BASIC INFORMATION
My partner is Roberto he lives at Via Giovanni XXIII 16 in Creazzo (Vicenza), 36051 Italy.
He is a fan of Vicenza and likes sports. He has special interests in football and Metalcore Music. He has the following character: happy.
Doesn’t know what to study or become yet.
I like him, because he is funny!
A bad quality is that he is a bit strange sometimes, like his father, who thinks he is a terrorist.Roberto says he is the best of the school, in the year 06/07 he won the price for best student of that year. Sometimes he acts like a player. His best friends are Alberto, Federico and last but not least Elia. He loved Holland he said, it’s a great country, but in Italy they have the best food. And the humor in Holland is bad. I already said it but, football is his passion. And he plays it very good. I think this is enough basic information about Roberto, read the interview to discover more!
THE INTERVIEW
What was for you the diference between the week in Italy and the week in the Netherlands?
In Italy they go to school on Saturday too and in the Netherlands they eat too early.
What is your opinion about the school you visit?
They do nothing in the Dutch schools, the Newmancollege is a real Dutch school.
Which activities have you done in your spare time and how appealled this to you?
We went out, played soccer, we bowled and played monoply. The activities in spare time where fun, but on school they weren’t.
How did you experienced the Dutch family?
It was a friendly family, they let me feel I was at home.
What is prominent about the Dutch food?
The breakfast is earlier and they put butter on almost everything, I love butter, so it’s good!
What is your impression about Amsterdam?
It is a wonderful city with a siometric building style. It isn’t like Venice, but there is quiet a lot of water.
What is your impression about Rotterdam?
Rotterdam is very modern, I like Amsterdam more, but Rotterdam is quiet a nice city.
What was the nicest part of the week?
I think it was Amsterdam, the beautiful city with nice buildings!
How was the communicating in English with the dutch people?
Dutch people speak bad english, I think, but that don’t bother. I could understand it easily. Your family speaks very good english.
What are the importants characterize of the Dutch people?
They have a very bad sense for humor, I think. Very bad!
Did you get new ideas, about Holland?
The cyclist are animals, they don’t look at you and the people on scooters don’t wear helmets. The Dutch people don’t follow the rules.
What was your idea about this country, before you came here?
One word: flat!
What is the difference between the Dutch and Italian families?
The Italian families lover the mother. And why don’t you eat together?
Did you had prejudices about Holland?
I never had one and still I haven’t got one.
What don’t like about Holland?
I haven’t eat any pasta. Do they eat it here in Holland? And there is no asswasher, the bidet.
What is your opnion about the program this week?
Lot’s of spare time, maybe too much! And I liked it, it was fun to be here and see the cities Rotterdam and Amsterdam!
What would you change?
The maps are very bad and why we need to make so much pictures of everything? Couldn’t they think of more original things?
How would you describe this week to family and friend?
It’s to be here. I would go back in the vacations. There is a good lifestyle and it’s almost the same as in Italy. Only the food could be a bit better, because Italian food is still the best… And it wil stay the best! It was fun to be here!
MY OWN OPINION

It was fun to have him here, he was really nice. I think I made this week a good week for him. His family was friendly for me when I was there, so we where friendly back. It was a great weak, we did a lot of great things, like bowling, go out, etc. We visited the nice cities Amterdam and Rotterdam. It was much better then go to school. Ofcourse there where some bad things about the exchange, sometimes we had to wait a long time for information, and there could be more spare time. But it was fun, and that’s the most important thing of everything. I enjoyed it, Roberto enjoyed it too, my family too, so we had a good week!
